Digg users revolt!
Apparently unhappy with redesign of Digg, users revolt and game Digg to highlight stories from competitor aggregate site Reddit. Ah… I love the web. Check out full story: http://news.cnet.com/the-social/

iPad Targeting Wrong Consumer
Had this conversation with colleague earlier… As excited as I am to see the new Apple product on Saturday, marketers for the iPad target the wrong consumer. The iPad appears to be a simple, large product… with large buttons. It just calls to be marketed to the older, less tech savvy generation and the casual consumer. Calling all folks with bifocals and a fear of the interwebs…...

Search = King?
If Murdoch pulls content from search engines… & other media companies follow, could demo that Search (not content) = King http://bit.ly/4rm07o (via The Guardian)

Twitter's Flattened Growth
While some may think that Twitter’s flattened growth indicates that the social platform has maximized growth/reach, I actually think it’s simply the fork in the road for Twitter. Twitter has a terrific opportunity to seize the moment and define itself. Define itself as the platform for: 1) updates among friends/casual relationships 2) real-time communication for business/news...

Has email become obsolete?
I do not believe email has become obsolete. (One of the anchors on CNBC just teased this question.) Email is, however, just one of many tools in a communicator’s tool kit. Its a terrific tool for longer written communication, multiple (specified) recipients, and its format is easily printable/savable. What do you think?

New York Dollar
Oh so true… See how NY dollar = 78.4% of US dollar… What Does New York Dollar Mean? The buying power of a U.S. dollar in the city of New York. The New York dollar is calculated by subtracting the additional cost of living in New York, and then adding back the additional income residents tend to command as a result. Once calculated, the remaining amount is a rough estimate of what...

How Do Innovators Think?
Brilliant article on the essential skills for innovators. http://bit.ly/sypqQ “To paraphrase the famous Apple ad campaign, innovators not only learned early on to think different, they act different (and even talk different).” (Via SmartBrief)

Content = King
BusinessWeek article discusses independent web shows… the advertisers, challenges. At some point, won’t webisodes take place of independent films? It’s all about content… today’s debate is simply the delivery device.  http://bit.ly/DxXIL

Luxury Brands Need Social Media
While the article is interesting (http://bit.ly/HwJ8x), find the most compelling part to be Ad Age’s list of winners/losers for social media. Just wish they had included media companies on the list! Media folks should be first in class for social media… though that might not be the case. (via @adage)

Nielsen v Alternative Ratings
Especially today, when TV signals have gone digital & are controlled by cable companies, not understanding how Nielsen is dominating the ratings world. Don’t the MSOs (Time Warner, Comcast, etc) have exact measurement of who is watching what… and for how long… via the digital set-top boxes on every viewer’s TV? http://bit.ly/B5aZJ (Ad Age)

503 Msg = We're Closed
Will companies use 503 msg to prevent visitors to sites on days other than Shabbat? This could have all sorts of possibilities for contests, holiday websites, etc. RT @jatinmahindra Stop Spiders From Crawling Your Site http://bit.ly/vr87m

Tweeting During Primetime
@jkarpf Cool idea … and natural step for networks to tweet during primetime. But if they’re adding tweets to re-runs, shouldn’t the tweets expand beyond the production team? Say, to the general public? There’s a built in opp for filtering and building audience. Don’t get why they’re limiting to production folks. Just sayin’.  http://bit.ly/OPpbT

Super-cool idea. Props to Nat Geo on The Human...
“As part of its recent upfront strategy, National Geographic Channel took DNA samples from more than 600 advertising professionals working at top agencies in the US including Starcom, MediaEdge, Zenith and OMD. The promotion was also tied to the network’s upcoming special, The Human Family Tree debuting this Sunday at 9p, where 200 random neighbors living in Queens, NY had their DNA...

Deep Thoughts...
“When you’re doing something you believe in, there is always going to be criticism,” she said. “If your goal is to be universally approved, dress beautifully, smile a lot and don’t say too much.” Quote from Arianna Huffington,via Jon Friedman’s MarketWatch column. http://bit.ly/g0MNJ

Go fail, but mix it up please.
Great post… and too many managers make the mistake of not understanding this concept. webmarc: Failure is not an option: it comes standard.  Embrace it. Most managers don’t know that it’s important to hammer that message into their employees, because the word failure has a negative stigma attached.  So let’s pretty it up a bit: call it a mistake. When an employee makes a mistake,...

today's observation
Even though I’ve uploaded dozens of videos to YouTube on dozens of topics, LeBron James and other personality-based videos seem to be much more popular than other topic-based videos, such as porn.
